Slow modes in non-hydrodynamic regime

Abstract: Identifying possible slow modes remains a major challenge in the study of many-body systems in general and the quark–gluon plasma (QGP) produced in heavy-ion collisions in particular. In this talk, I discuss relevent d.o.fs in non-hydrodynamic regime for QGP-like systems. I first consider the response of the near-equilibrium quark-gluon plasma (QGP) to perturbation at non-hydrodynamic gradients. I propose a conceivable scenario under which sound mode continues to dominate the medium response in this regime. Then, I explore relevent d.o.fs for a rapidly expanding QGP using kinetic equation in the relaxation time approximation. I will demonstrate the qualitaive difference in the properties of slow modes for the medium in and out of equilibrium.
