Title:
Far-from-Equilibrium Shear Transport from Strongly Time-Dependent Spacetimes

Abstract:
First principle approaches to the quark-gluon plasma, like perturbative QCD, the functional renormalization group approach, or lattice gauge theory, consider near equilibrium conditions. The early stage of a heavy-ion collision, however, is far from equilibrium.
We study shear transport for strongly coupled physical systems in a state far from equilibrium. Our investigation is based on applying the AdS/CFT correspondence to a time-dependent Vaidya spacetime. We demonstrate that strong temporal gradients substantially reduce the specific shear viscosity, η/s, over all energies at RHIC and LHC, up to a factor of 2.5. The presented method can be applied to further transport coefficients as well.
