Dark World to the Swampland

The 10th IBS-MultiDark-IFT Workshop
Dark Matter/Axion Focus Week
November 10-13, 2025

The IBS-MultiDark-IFT Workshop is a regular event organized jointly by MultiDark and IBS-CTPU, this year reaching its tenth anniversary.

The aim of the workshop is share ideas, foster collaborations, and to discuss recent developments in the field of axion and Dark Matter physics.

The event is organized over two weeks. The second week, November 10-13, will focus on Dark Matter/Axions.

The Center for Theoretical Physics of the Universe is one of the 30 centers of the Institute of Basic Science in South Korea. The IBS-CTPU carries out research on particle physics and cosmology, which aims to understand nature at the most fundamental level and answer the big questions about the origin of the universe.

The Institute for Theoretical Physics IFT UAM-CSIC is a joint research center belonging to the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM). It is the only Spanish center dedicated entirely to research in Theoretical Physics. The IFT members develop research in the frontiers of Elementary Particle Physics, Astroparticles, and Cosmology, in order to understand the fundamental keys of Nature and the Universe.

The workshop will take place in-person at the Institute of Theoretical Physics (IFT), Madrid, Spain. You can find directions here.

Remembering Rebecca Collins at the UNESCO Week of Sound (18 Feb. 2025)

The Edinburgh College of Arts (ECA) is organising a series of events to celebrate and continue the legacy of our colleague Dr Rebecca Collins, with contributions from many of her collaborators and a chance to hear one of her last works.

As part of the UNESCO Week of Sound, the Tuesday session will contain several activities that revolve around Rebecca’s projects and ideas. A workshop (Unexpected encounters), followed by a performative lecture by Johanna Linsley (‘Sonic detection: Echoes from the future’), and culminating with a concert of electroacoustic music (Stolen voices and parameters for uncertainty) from some of Rebecca’s projects.

More information can be found in the UNESCO Week of Sound web page.

November 18 is marked as the ‘International Day of LGTBIQA+ people in STEM’. This day celebrates and recognises the contributions, aspirations and challenges that the LGTBIQA+ community encounters in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The Out in Space group at the European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC) and the Women and Astronomy Committee (CMyA) of the Spanish Astronomical Society (SEA) have joined forces to launch the 1st panel discussion ‘November 18: A call for LGTBIQA+ rights in STEM’. In this event we will count with the special presence of four great experts in STEM, who proudly represent the LGTBIQA+ community in their field of expertise.

Karen Macías participates as a speaker.

New Podcast! Listening to Dark Matter

Edinburgh College of Art Podcast Episode 3. Dr Rebecca Collins and Dr David Cerdeño: Listening to Dark Matter

Our Universe contains vast amounts of dark matter that neither emits nor absorbs light. While we can’t directly detect these invisible particles, its presence can be rendered more resonant. This episode brings together theoretical physics and artistic research. We learn about the cosmic silence at Canfranc Underground Laboratory, 800m below the Pyrenees, and listen to particle collisions recorded by acoustic detectors 2.5.km below the surface of the Mediterranean.
