Master’s courses

The Master’s Degree in Theoretical Physics at UAM offers an academic structure that combines mandatory common courses with a range of elective courses allowing specialization in the two tracks: Elementary Particles and Cosmology (PEC) and Astrophysics and Cosmology (AC).

Regarding mandatory common courses, Gravitation (GRA) and Cosmology (COSMO) stand out as foundational subjects for all students. Additionally, the Master’s Thesis is an annual mandatory common course worth 12 ECTS.

Among the common elective courses, offerings such as Astroparticle Physics, Advanced Cosmology, and Advanced Gravitation are available to students from both tracks to deepen their specialized training.

Each track also includes specific elective courses focused on its area of expertise

  • For the PEC track, mandatory and track-oriented electives include Quantum Field Theory, Standard Model of Particle Physics, Open Problems in the Standard Model, Experimental Particle Physics, Quantum Entanglement and Information, and other advanced mathematics and theory courses.
  • For the AC track, mandatory and track-oriented electives include Stellar Structure and Evolution, Radiative Processes in Astrophysics, Observational Techniques in Astrophysics, Formation and Evolution of Galaxies, and Computational Astrophysics.

This combination of common and specialized courses ensures a comprehensive education tailored to the interests and professional goals of the students.
