Up to now, science has failed to identify what makes up to 85% of the matter of the Universe. Elucidating the nature of dark matter (DM) constitutes a key challenge in modern physics. MultiDark is a Research Network supported by the Spanish Research Agency, in which theoretical and experimental groups of particle physicists, astrophysicists and cosmologists from 15 Spanish universities and research institutes join efforts to take up this task from a multidisciplinary perspective. The Network started in June 2023 and will last for 2 years. The PI institution is Madrid Autonomous University (UAM), with the PI researcher Dr. Miguel A. S\u00e1nchez-Conde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In its original form, MultiDark was a project in which most of the Spanish community working in the field of DM was involved. The project was funded by the CONSOLIDER-Ingenio 2010 Programme with a total of 3.2 million euros and for 5 years, starting December 2009, and extended for 2.5 years more, until June 2017. Later, between July 2018-2022, MultiDark continued as a \u00abThematic Network\u00bb of the Spanish Research Agency. MultiDark consisted of 11 theoretical and experimental groups with particle physicists, astrophysicists and cosmologists from 18 Spanish universities and research institutes. It also included 11 senior researchers from foreign institutions. In total, the project involved about 120 researchers, more than 20 of whom were hired as postdocs, Ph.D. students, or technicians.\u00a0The PI institution was the UAM, with the PI Prof. Carlos Mu\u00f1oz.
