In this talk, I discuss relevent d.o.fs in non-hydrodynamic regime for QGP-like systems. I first consider the response of the near-equilibrium quark-gluon plasma (QGP) to perturbation at non-hydrodynamic gradients. I propose a conceivable scenario under which sound mode continues to dominate the medium response in this regime. Then, I explore relevent d.o.fs for a rapidly expanding QGP using kinetic equation in the relaxation time approximation.
