Carlos Peña Garay has worked on searching for Peccei-Quinn axions from frequency dependence radiation dimming. Astrophysical data are best placed to search for photon conversion into axions, or scalar fields in general, as we can find in celestial objects the largest and longest magnetic field structures. Explosive phenomena as gamma ray bursts or steady sources like neutron stars or white dwarfs are good candidates to further constrain the parameters range (mass and coupling to photons) and test whether axions are a viable candidate to explain the amount of matter derived by cosmological data. The work done at the IFT in November led to a scientific publication on the study of the implications in photon axion conversion searches of recent and future observations of isolated neutron stars and transits in binary systems.
